Since early 2016 I have worked with renowned Margate architects Studio Sam Causer. My contribution was predominantly residential projects in Kent and London, internal renovations and extensions. Below is a selection of the projects I have worked on with the Studio Sam Causer team, all work © STUDIO SAM CAUSER LTD

A substantial three-floor plus basement Victorian home in South Manchester required a full renovation. Neglected for many years the house was in need of remedial and structural works both externally and internally. The brief: modernisation for family living whilst celebrating the original features.

The scope of the project included Building Control and Structural Engineer liaison; managing the tender process and selection of a contractor; specifying all finishes and details; sourcing all fixtures and fittings; detail drawing of all bespoke elements; project management.

The existing ground floor of this Victorian semi did not meet the current family’s needs. The kitchen extension at the rear created a dark middle room, with the kitchen layout itself wasting space. The proposal redesigned the kitchen adding a pop-out window seat overlooking the garden plus the addition of a utility room and a toilet.

The project paused at the design development stage due to change in circumstances.

This residential extension in Cliftonville, Margate involved a planning submission due to it’s location in the Athelstan/Ethelbert Conservation Area; followed by the full strip-out of the existing kitchen and garden. A side-return extension was constructed with a full-length glazed roof, bi-fold doors to the garden and an enlarged opening to the main house.

The scope of the project included Building Control and Structural Engineer liaison; managing the tender process and selection of a contractor; specifying all finishes and details; sourcing all fixtures and fittings; detail drawing of the kitchen cabinetry; project management.

The existing garden fencing was removed and 8ft brick walls constructed to provide improved privacy, with raised plant beds incorporated.

This project was undertaken in collaboration with my lovely friend Sharan Chandola of SC+Architects.

This Victorian terrace near Dreamland required a re-think to the lower-ground floor, the primary family living spaces. The existing kitchen was disproportionately small for the house crammed into a modern extension at the rear. The proposal moved the kitchen into one of the primary rooms, creating a utility space in the old kitchen. Moving the kitchen required a Building Control application and the project was developed through to going on site.

The scope of the project included initial concept design and design detailing; managing the tender process and liaison with a main contractor; specifying all finishes and details; sourcing all fixtures and fittings; detail drawing of the kitchen cabinetry.

Design of a new family wet-room utilising reclaimed furniture and fittings wherever possible. Minimal wall tiling, use of free-standing furniture and inclusion of the fireplace creates an informal feel.
